Advanced Computing Concepts Tips

Some tips that I would have liked to hear before starting this course

Get your work done on time

If you don't finish your work in class, I highly recommend that you finish it after school. It is really easy to fall behind on assignments and catching up at the end of a term isn't as easy as it may seem. This class is full of infomation and remembering all of it can be difficult.

Use Auto-Generated Styles

If you aren't great a styling your sites, using auto-generated color palettes and font generators will be your best friend.

Be Consistent With Names

There is a lot of naming things and if you aren't consisten with how you work, I suggest you figure it out. For example, Mrs. Bishop is consistent with the first part of a variable having a lowercase letter and the second part having an uppercase letter. While this clearly works for her, it didn't for me. When following notes, I was switching between the variables she used and the ones that came easiest to me (all lowercase names because I can't comfortably click shift). Pick whatever comes easiest to you and stick with it.

Learn How to Type With All of Your Fingers

In this course, we do a lot of side by side notes with Mrs. Bishop. If you are a slow typer, it can be easy to fall behind. Taking just 10 minutes a day to impove your typing can greatly inprove your skills. Typing is also becoming an important life skill, so it never hurts to improve. There are fun typing games like ztype (kinda like Galaga, but typing based)and typing tests like Monkey Type (you can customize the colors at the bottom). Both of these websites make learning how oto type fun!
